SOCIAL IMPACT EVALUATION FOR

THE BURDEKIN FALLS DAM – SADDLE DAM & MONOLITH IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT

The purpose of the SIE is to identify the range of potential social impacts, positive and negative, arising from the short listed options and where possible influence option implementation. In this way the social value provided by the initiative may be realised and best possible social outcomes achieved.

The SIE approach is in accordance with advice received from Building Queensland and the Building Queensland Social Impact Evaluation Guide, 2016.  The key steps include:

-  Review of the BFD Improvement Project proposal and definition of an applicable socio-economic study area

-  Establishment of the socio-economic baseline through indicators which describe applicable social characteristics of potentially affected communities

-  Identification of potential socio-economic impacts and benefits through the review of potential impact pathways

-  Assessment of identified impacts in terms of significance through the analysis of likelihood and consequence as per the matrix recommended in the Building Queensland Social Impact Evaluation Guide

-  For the purposes of this assessment, the following impact areas have been used as the framework to guide analysis:

o Community Impacts

o Cultural Impacts

o Health Impacts

o Intergenerational Impacts

o Lifestyle Impacts

o Personal and Property Rights

o Political Systems

o Quality of Life Impacts

-  Identification of potential mitigation and enhancement measures

-  Assessment of impacts in terms of significance following the assumed effective implementation of mitigation and enhancement measures
