Within the context of globalisation and regional growth, the CoGG has transformed significantly over the last 10 to 15 years and has seen an increase in both residential and commercial developments as well as diversification of the economy. Located some 75 km from Melbourne’s CBD, Geelong is Victoria’s second largest city in the fastest growing region and is the primary service centre in the south-western half of the state, playing a key support role to Melbourne (G21 Regional Growth Plan, 2013). Geelong is the G21 region’s largest city, providing key services and employment activity for the whole region and housing the majority of the region’s workforce. This study is identified in the Revitalising Central Geelong Action Plan (State Government) and Central Geelong Action Plan (City of Greater Geelong) documents.

The aim of the project is to develop a Community infrastructure Strategy for the Central Geelong Area to:

-  Provide an overarching framework and strategic direction for Community infrastructure planning in Central Geelong (and the surrounding neighbourhoods) to 2028.

-  Include a stocktake of existing Community infrastructure provision and based on forecast population change it will identify provision requirements, trends and opportunities

-  Identify delivery model options of how the required Community infrastructure could be provided effectively.
