coppabella master plan
social impact assessment
In 2014 TAP Consulting was commissioned by AURIZON to undertake a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) for the proposed Coppabella Master Plan development, east of Moranbah in Central Queensland. The SIA is one of a number of technical reports being prepared to form part of the Economic Impact Assessment (EIA) as part of an information request from Isaac Regional Council.
A baseline study of the community’s existing social environment is developed by analysing demographic characteristics, social infrastructure, social values and lifestyles. The baseline information is then used to help predict any social impacts the community may face, or changes that may occur to the existing social environment, by introducing the proposed project.
This study seeks to identify the range of potential social impacts, positive and negative, arising from the implementation of the proposed Coppabella Master Plan. The study therefore broadly aims to:
- Identify the social issues and potential impacts relevant to the changes that will occur as a result of the implementation of the Master Plan;
- Anticipate and assess impacts on the service system and the quality of life of local residents; and
- Identify a range of enhancement and mitigation measures to lesson negative impacts.
