REVIEW OF HOUSING & HOMELESSNESS
RESPONSES BY LOCAL GOVERNMENT
A review of housing and homelessness responses by local governments in South East Queensland and some major regional cities was undertaken to provide Q Shelter with some directions on key policy issues to contribute to an integrated national, state and local government approach to addressing housing and homelessness. This is in the context of anticipated national changes to policies and funding arrangements intended to address housing and homelessness issues. It will also inform future advocacy of Q Shelter and its members going forward into the Queensland local government elections in 2020. It is anticipated that new opportunities will emerge to progress the role of local government in an integrated approach.
The scope of the review included the following:
- What current initiatives do Councils have in relation to homelessness?
- What current policy frameworks exist across Councils to support responses to homelessness?
- What current initiatives do Councils have in place to respond to housing affordability issues?
- What current policy frameworks across Councils support responses to housing affordability issues?
